Lincoln
cent was first issued in 1909 to commemorate the 100th anniversary
of the birth of Abraham Lincoln. His portrait
is on the obverse. Initially, the sheaves of wheat were on the reverse until 1958. During
the 150th anniversary celebration in 1959, the reverse design
was changed to the Lincoln Memorial.
In
2009, US Mint issued 4 special Lincoln cents to celebrate the
200th anniversary. In 2010, instead of returning back to the Lincoln
Memorial, the Mint changed the reverse to Union Shield.
